Turkey Sloppy Joes With Coleslaw

A mix of tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, and Worcestershire ensures the sandwich is juicy and flavorful.

Ingredients

  1. 1 tablespoon canola oil

  2. 1 pound ground turkey

  3. 1 onion, chopped

  4. 1 clove garlic, chopped

  5. 1 8-ounce can tomato sauce

  6. ¼ cup dark brown sugar

  7. ¼ cup barbecue sauce

  8. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  9. kosher salt and black pepper

  10. 4 hamburger buns

  11. Coleslaw
  12. ⅓ cup sour cream

  13. 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

  14. kosher salt and black pepper

  15. 1/4 small green cabbage, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)

  16. 1/4 small red cabbage, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)

  17. 2 carrots, grated

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the turkey, onion, and garlic and cook, breaking the meat up with a spoon, until browned, 3 to 5 minutes.

  2. Mix the tomato sauce, sugar, barbecue sauce, and Worcestershire into the turkey mixture; season with ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Reduce heat and simmer until thickened, 3 to 5 minutes.

  3. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the sour cream, vinegar, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Add the cabbage and carrots and toss to combine.

  4. Serve the turkey mixture on the buns with the coleslaw.
